  Sewer Connection To BCUA Facilities

The BCUA maintains approximately 120 miles of gravity and force fed sewer pipe. The pipe ranges in size from eight inches to ninety-six inches.

Connection directly to the BCUA line requires a permit and various fees and deposits. A one-year performance bond to guarantee the integrity of the work and a copy of the contractor’s current liability insurance policy are also required. This application and fee schedule are available on this web site. Click here to download a copy of the Direct Connection Application and fee schedule.

Inspections by BCUA field personnel will be between the normal hours of 7:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. Additional required inspections for work outside the normal workweek will be at the developer’s expense in accordance with the hourly overtime rate of the BCUA inspector.

In addition on March 24, 2005, the BCUA adopted an amendment to the BCUA Rules and Regulations for the Direct and Indirect Discharge of Wastewater to the Bergen County Utilities Authority Treatment Works requiring any person seeking to construct a direct or indirect connection to a municipal sewer system or the BCUA’s System to pay a connection fee to the BCUA. With respect to developments where construction has not yet begun at the time of the adoption of this regulation, the connection fee shall be paid prior to the commencement of construction. With respect to developments where construction has begun, but no direct or indirect connection has been made to the System at the time of the adoption of this regulation, the connection fee shall be paid prior to the direct or indirect connection to the System.
